About
PopOverHttp: A simple protocol that packages POP commands and
responses over a HTTP connection. The main benifits being that it works
over a HTTP proxy and it's faster than straight POP if the PopOverHttp
script is hosted on the same server as the POP account. It is not the
same as webmail.
To use PopOverHttp you will need to use an email client that supports it, like
i.Scribe or
InScribe.
PopOverHttp.com provides a host for users that don't have their own
webspace to host the PopOverHttp script, which is the glue code (written
in PHP) that makes the protocol possible.
It is not however free, we charge a yearly fee to cover the costs of hosting,
bandwidth and storage.
This site supports fetching
mail from a 3rd party POP mailbox to the local mailbox here on PopOverHttp. This means
you can get your existing POP mail from behind a HTTP firewall. To set this up
go into the account properties and enter your external POP details. Messages will
be transfered in small batches to your PopOverHttp account and cached here.
In our initial beta period accounts are free. You are welcome to create an
account and then configure
Scribe to receive mail.
Instructions are available once you log in.
Feedback is welcome, just
